RETOSA Secures Partnerships with International Radio Stations

In an effort to increase our marketing efforts, RETOSA forged key partnerships with two vital media organisations - Khaya Kool FM and Channel Africa (a subsidiary of the SABC). Khaya Kool is an international radio station that focuses on the tourism, hospitality and travel industries. It broadcasts to tourism enthusiasts from all over the world. Channel Africa aims to promote the rejuvenation of Africa through the production of dynamic and stimulating programmes in the following languages: Chinyanja; Silozi; Kiswahili; English; French; and Portuguese.

USA Travel Agents Visit South Africa and Mozambique

RETOSA, SOUTH AFRICAN TOURISM AND SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS MEGA FAMILIARIZATION TRIP TO SOUTHERN AFRICA

In partnership with South Africa Tourism (America), RETOSA organised a joint familiarisation tour for North American travel agents to South Africa and Mozambique. The group was made up of 18 travel agents, South African Tourism and three South African Airways representatives. The purpose of the visit was to introduce Southern Africa to younger travellers through younger USA tour operators and travel agents.

From the acting executive directors desk: SADC Ministers responsible for Tourism approve RETOSA’s Transformation Plan

In 2012, the SADC Committee of ministers responsible for tourism requested the RETOSA board members  to start working on transforming the organisation.

“The ministers have finally approved the transformation. Essentially, the transformation entails bringing in the private sector to participate fully in the organisations’ programmes. The feeling was that we were lacking something by not involving it,” said Mr Mandinyenya, Acting Executive Director of RETOSA. “For the organisation to achieve its mandate fully, there has always been a need for transformation and it has taken longer for the ministers responsible for tourism to approve the changes. The expectation is that public sector members or representatives from member countries will now assist and engage the private sector and make sure that each country will be represented fully on the RETOSA board.

Japan Tourism Award

The Japanese tourism awards recognise those who contribute to the development and growth of the tourism industry, both through their efforts at the Japanese Tourism Expo and promotions to domestic and international groups, organisations and corporations. RETOSA has been working closely with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to promote the southern African region to the people of Japan and Asia. RETOSA’S efforts were recognised when they won an award at the Second Japan Tourism Awards.
